SLC 2017 Startup With Team

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Air General is pushing further west into new territory with the award of cargo handling contracts for Alaska Air, United Cargo and American Cargo in Salt Lake City, Utah!

We will be subleasing the same warehouse space that these three carriers are currently handled in at SLC. The current supplier TAC Air is exiting the cargo handling business but retaining their ramp handling and FBO operations in SLC.

The acquisition of this new city to our network came about, as often happens, because the carriers contacted Air General with a call for help as their current provider could not meet their expectations. In each case, these suppliers contacted Air General because of our record of achievement with them in other airports. This is a great testament to our ladies and gentlemen in the field who work so hard to provide a superior service to our customers.

This will be the 13th city we serve for Alaska Cargo (we recently opened DFW for them!), the 14th for United Cargo since we recently added IND for them and the 17th for American Cargo!

While it seemed at first that it might be a “turnkey” operation with a warehouse already configured and in decent working order and a staff from the former supplier already in place, we know from our experience to always “expect the unexpected!”

Terry Hennessey, Properties and Implementation Manager began immediately to negotiate a sublease from the prior service provider, TAC Air. As often happens, difficulties in obtaining proper information about the lease, equipment availability, and tonnage data caused delays. Gabe Rodriguez, Regional Director began to organize his Transition Team but faced similar concerns with confidentiality issues, TAC Air people leaving before we could ask them to join our team and serious ID badging restrictions.

Despite the obstacles that would create havoc for any Project Manager, Gabe has pulled together a full station opening in minimal time on Saturday night into Sunday with the assistance of Terry, Chris Kubasko, Steve McCombs and Ali Alawi.

Kelly Feeney from United Cargo has been a fabulous support and was instrumental in arranging travel for three new hires to train for two weeks with Mike Hall and Rana Hudgins on UA UC360 at our BNA facility.

New hires are very excited about starting their jobs with Air General. They worked long hours on Saturday to help clean and organize the office and warehouse.

Others on station on Day One to support the startup include Doug Colvin, Brandi Gebhardt and Greg Jones from United, JohnCarlo Martinez from American and Tony Dimeglio from Alaska Air Cargo.

The newest station in our network is projected to handle 600,000 pounds monthly plus another 59,000 pounds of passthrough mail from American Cargo.

FLL AA Cargo Cup

FLL has won it’s first (of we hope many!) cargo cup award from AA, and we couldn’t be more proud of that team as they also just opened their new facility for AA at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport. This is also the second time Air General has had back-to-back wins for the cargo cup, in 2014 Air General won Q3 for STL and Q4 for CLT.

Congratulations to the entire cargo teams in CLT and FLL for this amazing achievement!

American Airlines, which is Air General’s largest customer, has awarded Air General it’s American Airlines Cargo Cup Award for Q2 2016 to CLT (Best Large Station Winner) and to FLL for Q3 2016 (U.S./ Canadian Winner)!

The Cargo Cup Award is given out each quarter to a selection of outstanding teams who are being recognized for their extraordinary efforts in helping American Airlines work toward being the preferred choice in air cargo. This is an outstanding accomplishment for Air General, as the American Airlines Cargo network encompasses over a hundred stations throughout the US, which makes this very special to be chosen.

This is the second time Air General’s CLT station has won this prestigious award, last time it had one for the Q4 2014 period.

Congratulations to the entire cargo teams in CLT and FLL for this amazing achievement!

agi stl cargo cup award 2014
Air General is pleased to congratulate our entire team in STL on their prestigious award of the American Airlines Cargo Cup for the Third Quarter!

When Station Manager Chris Jones was asked what best practices he and his team used to achieve this award he said:

1. Make SURE that we show an item “On Hand” or “IP” or “Available” as soon as we get it in the building.
2. Make SURE that we have everything to the ramp for loading a minimum of 60 mins out from flight departure.
3. Make SURE to have developed and continue to develop our relationship with our AA ramp counterparts.
4. Never and I mean NEVER give up. Keep chipping away at those numbers. Every little tiny bit helps!
5. Repeat all of the above steps EVERY DAY !!!

These fundamentals not only apply to AA, but all of Air General’s airline customers. Employing these best practices and fundamentals ensure our all of our operations shine that much more.

Air General is very proud of our team in STL, led by Station Manager Chris Jones, and extremely grateful for the very significant efforts that make this achievement possible.

October 20th marked the day when American Airlines and US Airways completed their long and difficult integration task and began operating under a “single air waybill.”  For Air General, this also means we now have 16 new American Airlines contracts around the USA.  The partnership involved in Air General and American Airlines working together marked a significant achievement for both companies.  We are proud to manage AA cargo in so many locations!

With the addition of these new cities we will now be servicing eight cargo stations for AA.  Last year AA announced a new re-branding and marketing campaign dubbed “A New American”. The staff at Air General are proud to be a part of “the new AA.”
